Erin the Artist

Last week I had a  “ooh look at this post on Facebook from Roseville Arts!” moment and signed Erin up for free painting workshop yesterday at Blue Line Gallery. Turns out the workshop was for the upcoming NATURAL WONDERS FOREVER Children’s Open Show. “Natural Wonders Forever – Inspired by the Natural Wonders of Placer County… This fall, share your artwork depicting the landscape and natural beauty that is Placer County. Rivers, grassy hills, flower patches, the beautiful blue sky-it’s up to you what to paint!” Cool! Erin got to paint and her painting will be in a gallery show! The show is sponsored by Placer Land Trust and will run from Sept 28 – Oct 6, 2012 at the Blue Line Gallery in Roseville. That’s 2 shows for her this summer. The first one being the University Art “Kid’s Art Contest: Birds, Bugs, and Butterflies”. Not bad for a 5 year old! The classroom: Excited to paint! (She brought her own apron) Doin’ her thing. She was instructed to fill in all the white space. And done! Pretty awesome! There is a door. That leads to the farm. I don’t know why. Portrait of the artist with an extra head.…

Take me to the fair!

Even though it was going to be over 100 degrees last Saturday, I had an Award Ceremony to attend so Chris, Erin, and I went to the California State Fair! The Fine Art building is air conditioned so the award ceremony was no problem. Except for the fact the Chinese Dragons were dancing outside at the same time. (FYI, Erin is getting heavy!) After that we had to brave the heat and  check out the animals. We saw all the horses and all the cows. We saw some piglets and then Erin got to milk a goat! Here is the approach: the reach and here’s your sign! Then she wanted to go on a ride! But first we had lunch. And then Chris almost lost his in this innocent looking strawberry from hell! And then Erin braved The Hopper solo. And loved it! Oh look! A petting zoo! We must pet all the pets! Twice!! Baby deer! And damn, that chicken was the softest thing ever. Erin tried to put it on her head. I don’t know why. I don’t know about this goat on goat business either. Back through the Fine Art exhibit and then we were done. A…

4th-7th of July: a picture parade

The 4th of July was on a Wednesday this year. So this was the first time in years we didn’t spend the holiday in Santa Cruz. We hung our new flag, Chris made abalone, we introduced Erin to sparklers and lit fireworks in the street. A fine day despite the lack of ocean breezes. Erin definitely approved of the sparklers! July 5th. Thursday means more swimming lessons! This was Erin’s last week of her 5pm “Duck” classes and the start of her next session as an “Alligator”. This next session is Tues/Thurs at 2pm for a month. So twice last week she had 2 lessons in one day. That made for a mighty tired little swimmer! Alligator time A little TV between classes And back to the pool! July 6th. Friday. Not having to be anywhere until 2:30 when I have to pick Kyle up from summer school (I still don’t want to talk about that!), I ended up spending the day shooting photos for the next series I’m working on. Shot mostly digital, but did break out the Hasselblad *and* the Polaroid! Proof of Polaroids Took a shot of the flag with the Polaroid. This is the negative! And…

Extreme Procrastinating

Hells bells. As I mentioned in this post from my website, I have a new job!  Entry Level Self Promotion. yay me. However, as you can see from my freshly vacuumed floors and the start of another zombie apocalypse blog post, I am in avoidance mode. It must be time to write Artist Statements and emails with newsletter invites. gah. But first let me tell you about my weekend! We went to Santa Cruz. It was cold and perfect. I didn’t do any of the work I had assigned myself, but painted and took pictures. Let me show them to you! We drove by the beach. And we went downtown where I saw this: and bought these: I really should get to my to-do list. Erin had a good time with the Ubers: One more just because. Erin making faces while Grandma tries to take her picture. And typical driving home behavior: There are more, so many more, but I have a mat to re-cut. And then maybe some lunch! Then the to-do list. Really. Oh yeah, scroll back up to the top of the sidebar and sign up for my newsletter! There. Earning my pay.

GoGoGadgetNewDrug

I thought today was the day I had my follow-up appointment with the neurologist. I was wrong. That appt is next Tuesday. Today was the pumpkin patch field-trip with Erin’s preschool. oh boy. If anything is going to put this new medication to the test, it is a day in the sun surrounded by a bunch of hopped up 4 year olds. Now I don’t want to jinx myself, but so far this stuff seems to be working. Although this will be the week to watch, I have not had a migraine since I started taking it. And I must say it is strange. There have been days where I know that without the medicine I would have had a headache. It kinda feels like cheating death or something. I have not noticed any negative side effects either. So. I’m hopeful. To celebrate surviving the day with my head intact, I published a bunch of pictures on flickr for your viewing enjoyment. That little girl was wiped out by the time I literally dragged her out of there. I think she had fun. And she wants a goat. And if I hit publish and wake up with a headache, I…
